Business & Retention

The Business Retention Action Team (BRAT) is dedicated to supporting the long-term success, growth, and competitiveness of existing industries in Valdosta-Lowndes County. Through strategic partnerships and direct industry engagement, BRAT connects businesses with the resources, information, solutions, and key contacts needed to address operational challenges and identify opportunities for expansion.

Supporting existing industry remains one of the Development Authority’s highest priorities. BRAT team members serve as proactive partners and problem-solvers, helping companies navigate workforce needs, infrastructure concerns, operational issues, and future growth opportunities.

As part of this commitment, BRAT hosts quarterly industry luncheons designed to keep local manufacturers and business leaders informed on topics impacting today’s industrial environment. These sessions provide valuable updates and discussion on workforce development, manufacturing trends, economic conditions, infrastructure, education partnerships, and other issues important to the existing industry.

In 2026, the BRAT Luncheon program expanded into focused peer-group sessions that bring together professionals in similar roles across different industries. This collaborative format encourages meaningful dialogue, shared best practices, and practical problem-solving among industry leaders facing similar operational challenges. By strengthening communication and industry relationships, BRAT continues to support sustainable growth and retention across the region’s industrial base.

BRAT also encourages partnerships between local industries and area schools to strengthen career education, workforce readiness, and job placement opportunities for local students and graduates. These connections help build a stronger talent pipeline while supporting the long-term needs of existing employers.
