Valdosta State University Named to List of 2014 Military Friendly Schools

September 30, 2013

VALDOSTA—Valdosta State University has been designated a 2014 Military Friendly School by G.I. Jobs magazine, an honor it has received for several consecutive years.

The national recognition ranks VSU among the “top 20 percent of all colleges, universities and trade schools nationwide for its service to military members, veterans, and spouses as students to ensure their success in completing a college degree.”

As part of the university’s outreach to active duty military and veterans, VSU recently added Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) to its Pathways Program. Active and retired military personnel who have earned an associate’s degree from CCAF are eligible to begin working on a Bachelor of Science in organizational leadership or Bachelor of Applied Science in human capital performance.

“This creates a pathway for military members that have successfully earned a degree from the CCAF to continue their education and graduate with a bachelor’s degree in two years or less." said Andy Clark, vice president for Enrollment, Marketing and Communications.

Both the organizational leadership and human capital performance programs are offered online and are specifically designed to meet the needs of military members and working adults.

VSU’s Adult and Military Program (AMP) was established in 2010 to improve degree completion for adult learners with particular attention to members of the military and veterans.

“One of the key functions of the AMP office is to help active duty service members and military veterans receive credit for training that is equivalent to courses that are offered by VSU,” said Dr. Jerry Merwin, director of AMP. “This new articulation of the CCAF programs to VSU degrees is a major step to streamline the degree completion opportunities for those who have earned the associate degree that is largely based on Air Force training.”
