Learning, leading for a fast-moving world.

As the world grows ever smaller, the challenges for education grow larger and more complex. The intense competition in today’s global marketplace demands a world-class education for every student. Along with strong academics, vital skills like critical thinking must be part of the equation, and opportunities must be tailored to each individual. That’s the promise of a Valdosta-Lowndes education.

K-12 Public

Valdosta City Schools: The Valdosta Wildcats have won more football games than any other high school in the nation, but Valdosta students aren’t just winners on the field—they’re winners in every field, from science to math to reading.  Applying the latest technology like Promethean Boards and state-of-the-art teaching techniques, Valdosta City Schools are boosting enrollment and test scores and enrolling more students in AP classes as well as the International Baccalaureate Program. Excellent facilities and teachers combined with a winning attitude give these K-12 city school students a great start in life.

Lowndes County School System: The Lowndes County School System is taking a measured approach to performance—that is to say, applying meticulous measurement and monitoring of outcomes and strategies in the System’s Continuous Improvement Plan.  This forward-thinking Plan is already showing an impact in enhanced student achievement and bolstered SAT scores as well as improved teacher recruitment, functionality of facilities and even budgeting and financial resources.  For all the talk nationally of school reform, Lowndes County is leading the way right here.

K3-12 Private:

Valwood: An independent K-12 college preparatory school, Valwood approaches its mission from three foundational pillars:  to guide students in achieving the highest academic excellence, to instill in them the basics of strong character and to inspire them to a commitment to serve others.  A rigorous curriculum, a student-teacher ratio of 9:1 and a wide range of opportunities for participation in arts, athletics and outdoor/natural activities prepare Valwood students not just for college, but for life.

St. John Catholic School:  Founded in 1941, St. John’s offers a tradition of excellence as well as a diverse population of students of various faiths and ethnicities in K-8 and preschool K3 and K4.  The School’s academics hew to high standards, athletics include cross-country, soccer and basketball, extracurricular activities are varied, and the atmosphere is faith-filled, guided by the fundamentals of the Catholic Church.

Georgia Christian School: This nearly century-old K3-12 school sits amid age-old oaks on 36 acres of land and offers both college prep and vocational diplomas. The school trains students for success in all walks of life, through excellent academics, low student-teacher ratios and a Christian environment (students attend Bible Class and Chapel every day).  Former First Lady Laura Bush was the featured speaker at the School’s 2012 Benefit Fundraiser.

Post-Secondary

Valdosta State University

When it comes to size, Valdosta State University, with an enrollment of 13,000, ranks 7th in the Georgia system of 35 colleges and universities.   But when it comes to surroundings conducive to the learning experience of a lifetime, VSU surely comes in at the very top.  Tropical palms and handsome Spanish Mission architecture set the stage for a special experience, and VSU delivers, incorporating state-of-the-art technology and a next-generation approach to learning and leading in a global world.  Students here earn Bachelors, Masters and Ph.D. degrees in more than 90 different programs of study, and while the majority of VSU students are from Georgia, the university’s 2012 enrollment included students from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and 60 different countries.

Wiregrass Georgia Technical College

Talk about revved up:  The nation’s fastest growing public two-year college, named Technical College of the Year in 2010, Wiregrass Georgia Technical College helps its 9,000 credit students hit the ground running in a relentless global marketplace.  Wiregrass offers a full slate of programs (including Digital Media, Tech and Industry, Business, Professional and Healthcare) while collaborating with local employers in targeted workforce training and with other educational providers in creating innovative new learning resources—the new allied health sciences program offered in collaboration with VSU and South Georgia Medical Center is an excellent example.

Georgia Military College (GMC)

Founded in 1879, Georgia Military College has a long history of service and a wide system of delivery, educating students throughout the state online and at six different campuses and two extension centers.  GMC Valdosta was opened in 1978, and today offers students a solid liberal arts education in a two-year program preparing students for completion of a four-year degree or ready them for immediate employment.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

The major U.S. airlines hire more graduates from Embry-Riddle than any other school; six U.S. astronauts are graduates of this specialized university, which has 150 locations across the world, including one on Moody Air Force Base.  At Embry-Riddle, future aerospace and aviation leaders enjoy an in-depth education in all the many complex issues and demands of the field through a curriculum covering the science, the practice and the business of aviation and aerospace.

Park University

Also located on Moody Air Force Base, Park University offers a particularly strategic opportunity for the non-traditional student, blending innovative delivery with traditional academics.  A variety of degree programs, accelerated formats and flexible options mixing online with face-to-face classroom learning make Park a popular—and practical—choice.
